The Carpenters Joint Apprentice Training Center of Philadelphia & Vicinity exists to provide first class quality training to members and contractors associated with the Metropolitan Regional Council. The Joint Apprentice Committee consist of a 20 member board, 10 representatives of management and 10 representatives of labor. This 20 member committee has one focus, to keep our training center the Best in the United States.  Our school for teaching Apprentices associated with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters was established in 1945 through the U.S. Department of Labor. Since then we have continued to grow and improve. We currently have 4 training centers in various locations servicing Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Mission Statement:  The mission of the CJATC is to provide state-of-the-art training for members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC). We transfer skills and knowledge from highly-skilled and experienced instructors to union members using cutting-edge curriculum developed at the Carpenters International Training Fund (CITF). In addition, the CJATC and Industry Subject Matter Experts continue to modify and develop curriculum to stay relevant in the constantly changing construction environment. Increasing the skills of our members and enabling them to do their very best work on the job is our top priority. We consider skill, safety, productivity, and attitude to be the keys to success for our members, our contractors, and our union. We are committed to providing the union and our signatory contractors a strong competitive advantage in the construction industry.

FOUR REGIONAL JAC TRAINING CENTERS

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA

Our main office and training center is located in Northeast Philadelphia at 10401 Decatur Rd.. This location has seen many additions since constructed over 35 years ago, so that today’s apprentices have the opportunity to learn in a 60,000 sq. ft. building. It offers seven designated shops, allowing hands-on instruction in general carpentry, interior systems, cabinetmaking, floor laying, millwrighting, pile driving, lathing and welding.

There are nine classrooms and a 125 stadium seated lecture hall for blueprint, math, and layout & theory courses.  state of the art computer learning center for instruction in introduction to computers, Word®, Excel®, AutoCAD, Building Information Modeling, planning & scheduling, and more.

LEHIGH VALLEY, PA

In Lehigh Valley we currently have a satellite campus available for all members in that regional area to attend classroom style courses only. You can view and register for these classes on this website. Please check regularly for the last information on upcoming classes.

NEW CASTLE, DE

Our New Castle, Delaware facility is a full service 12,000 square foot training facility with apprentice and journeymen training. The New Castle training center has been instructing Union Carpenters in their craft since 1982 at this facility.

GEORGETOWN, DE

Our Georgetown, Delaware Facility was opened in 2012. It is a state-of the-art 30,000 square foot training center. This facility offers training to all apprentices, journeymen and affiliate contractors in the DELMARVA jurisdictional area. This site boast a 16,000 square foot shop, multiple classrooms and breakout rooms, 6 full service welding booths and library as a member resource. This site was also constructed to LEED SILVER Standards complete with metal panels, geothermal heating and cooling, smart Lutron lighting, sustainable wood and a 50 kw Solar energy collection system installed by our Carpenters.

Instructors 

Apprentices and Journey persons at the Training Centers are taught by 14, full-time Instructors. All Instructors are certified by the State of Pennsylvania, through Temple University, as Vocational Education Instructors for their Trade. Some of our Instructors have taught special classes to other instructors of the International United Brotherhood of Carpenters in other training facilities throughout the country.

The Instructors have all completed Apprenticeships in their respective Trades and have many years of field experience and knowledge to share with the students.
